Happy Groundhog Day! Groundhog Day isn’t a big holiday like Christmas or Thanksgiving, but just a silly day people celebrate just for fun.

Here’s how it works. According to superstition, if the groundhog sees his shadow on Groundhog Day, we will have six more weeks of cold, winter weather. However, if he doesn’t see his shadow, it will mean we’re in for an early spring.  

Unfortunately, the groundhog is actually not very good at predicting the weather. According to the Weather Channel, the most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, has been wrong more times than he’s been right. 

However, Phil’s not the only animal in the weather business. For years people have been trying to use all kinds of animals to forecast the weather, including bees, birds, cows and caterpillars!  

These days scientists called meteorologists use a lot of high tech gadgets to help us know if it’s going to rain or snow, but even they get it wrong sometimes.  

Life is unpredictable. We can’t always guess the weather or anything else that’s going to happen to us, but one thing’s for sure: God is with us through it all. He’s with us on a beautiful sunny day and with us in a scary storm. He’s with us when good things happen and with us on our worst days.  

Psalm 46 tells us that even if the whole earth fell apart and the mountains crumbled into the sea, we don’t have to be afraid. God is with us. 

“God is our place of safety. He gives us strength. He is always there to help us in times of trouble” (Psalm 46:1 NIrV).

No matter what happens today, never forget that God is ALWAYS there to help!

Prayer: God, please help me to remember that You are always with me. Help me to trust You to take care of me today. Amen.
